Wilpena Pound, Day 2
So far the motorbikes have traveled around 2000km from Sydney and they haven’t been off the back of the Ute. Both Lucien and I had seen the forecast leading into our trip but somehow we assumed it couldn’t be real. We were going into the desert after all. So here we are hunkered down at Wilpena pound camping ground with hailstorms , howling gusts of wind and every road , track and trail in the region is closed. Beside the fact that we can’t ride our bikes we have had a great time. Last night we camped in an idyllic spot on Skytrek Willows station. It threatened to rain heavily but we somehow stayed in a bubble of dry, watching spectacular lightning shows across the horizon. It was nice falling asleep to the sound of the wind and crickets We were unable to do our planned ride, the Skytrek loop today as it had been closed. The squally rain wasn’t going to avoid us with the forecast deteriorating we though we would skip our planned second night and go to our next destination, Angorochina. However we then found out that by now all the roads are closed so all we could do was backtrack to Wilpena Pound. This is a rustic resort with motels, restaurants but also traditional powered and unpowered sites. We have managed to get a lovely spot at the edge of camp with a view onto a spectacular tree in a fairytale meadow. We are delighted that our camp has withstood the elements so far. Tomorrow sounds like it’s more of the same and then hopefully the weather let’s us go.
In the meantime we have loved the enforced slowing down.

Enjoying the business of keeping ourselves fed, dry and entertained. All of this done between rain showers. And chatting.
So let’s see what tomorrow brings We are staying here. Might go for a walk
